Alicia Jurney Whitlock Joins Smith Debnam

Alicia Jurney Whitlock has joined the law firm of Smith Debnam Narron Wyche Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P. Ms. Whitlock is an alumna of Smith Debnam’s 2006 Summer Associate Program and will work as an associate in the firm’s Raleigh office. She will focus her practice on civil litigation, with an emphasis on family law.
Ms. Whitlock, a native North Carolinian, earned her J.D., cum laude, from Campbell University School of Law in 2007 and her B.A. in Political Science with Honors from Wake Forest University in 2004. She participated in the CET Study Abroad Program in Beijing, China in 2002.
While in law school, Ms. Whitlock was a member of both the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court teams. As a member of the Vis Moot team, she competed in the oral argument rounds in Vienna, Austria against students from 178 law schools from 51 countries on six continents. Her team was one of only 32 teams overall and only 10 American teams to make the final rounds, and she received an Honorable Mention for Best Oralist, scoring in the top 5th percentile of all those participating in the competition. She was also the Campbell Law Review’s first Symposium Editor. She organized the law review’s first live symposium on the topic of immigration law and published a symposium issue containing articles on various immigration topics affecting legal practice in North Carolina. Upon graduation from Campbell Law, she received the CLS Alan & Mary Button Service Award and the Fred O. Dennis Award and was elected a member of the Order of Barristers. In 2006, while a summer associate with Smith Debnam, she was assigned several litigation projects involving family law, personal injury, and commercial disputes.
