Brian P. Gilman, the firm’s Director of Administration, has earned the designation of Certified Legal Manager (CLM). The CLM Program is offered through the Association of Legal Administrators, and it is the only certification program in the legal management profession. Through a comprehensive examination process, the voluntary program identifies and tests to determine if a legal administrator has a command of 56 core areas of knowledge for effective job performance. To qualify to complete the examination, candidates need to meet strict work experience guidelines and fulfill the professional education requirements determined by the organization. Mr. Gilman’s successful achievement of this certification program exhibited great professional initiative and dedication and demonstrates his practical understanding of the issues involved in managing today’s law firms.
Brian Gilman has been with Smith Debnam since 2001 providing leadership in both strategic and operational management in his role as Director of Administration for the firm. Mr. Gilman currently serves on the North Carolina Bar Association Law Practice Management Council, has served terms on the NC Bar Tenth District Grievance Committee and the Virginia Bar 4th District Disciplinary Committee, is the President-elect of the Raleigh-Durham Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of an international non-profit ministry.
