On September 22, Smith Debnam hosted the Cynthia V. McAlister Memorial Golf Outing to show appreciation to clients and friends of the firm and to remember their former partner and friend Cynthia V. McAlister, who lost the battle with cancer over five years ago. Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University was the venue for the 71 golfers, who participated in the event.
Due to the success of the event, the firm donated over $7600 to the 1 in 9 organization that assists women in Eastern North Carolina who are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In addition to a base contribution, the firm also paid $25 for each birdie, $50 for each eagle, and $100 for any hole in one. The firm also sold mulligans to raise additional funds for the charity. There weren’t any holes in one, but with the mulligans, many of the teams recorded birdies and eagles.
The event concluded with dinner, prizes, and a presentation of the donation to 1 in 9. Jerry Myers, the firm’s managing partner, said, “We are truly blessed to be able to raise money for breast cancer patients while spending a beautiful day on the golf course with friends and clients.”
