Long before Andrea Renegar-King stepped into a courtroom or drafted her first pleading, she was already quietly building the foundation for a career defined by clarity, compassion, and tenacity. Her earliest legal work came not as an attorney, but as a paralegal helping immigrants navigate the winding, high-stakes road to permanent residency. That experience taught her that the law is not just about rules and paperwork – it’s about people, and the life-changing outcomes that can hang in the balance.
Today, Andrea brings that same meticulous attention and heart-centered approach to her work in family law at Smith Debnam. Whether it’s guiding a young parent through a contentious custody dispute or helping a family reorganize during divorce, Andrea is drawn to the human side of the law – the real, often raw moments when clients feel overwhelmed and need someone to help them make sense of it all.
Andrea’s clients are often at a crossroads: young professionals balancing demanding careers and parenting responsibilities, individuals rebuilding after relationship changes, or families facing complex questions about custody, visitation, and support. Andrea’s ability to meet people exactly where they are with warmth, with insight, and with a plan, sets her apart. She is known for being the most prepared person in the room and never delivers one-size-fits-all answers. Instead, she crafts personalized strategies that reflect the unique contours of each client’s life.
Andrea’s legal acumen is underscored by years of hands-on experience. As a summer associate at Smith Debnam and through her work in Campbell Law School’s Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic, she has litigated custody cases, drafted legal pleadings, and negotiated parenting arrangements. Her attention to detail was sharpened by years as a business immigration paralegal and later as a research assistant to law professors, where she helped write legal articles and a civil procedure treatise. These experiences reinforced what clients and colleagues say about her: she is exceptionally thorough, intellectually agile, and deeply dependable.
Andrea earned her law degree, cum laude, from Campbell University, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She was honored with the Outstanding Family Law Student Award by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and named a Sarah Parker Scholar by the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys. She also holds dual degrees in Political Science and English from UNC Chapel Hill, both earned with distinction.
Outside the office, Andrea enjoys traveling with her husband, reading classic literature, experimenting in the kitchen, and staying active through Pilates. If not practicing law, she imagines she’d be teaching, helping others grow in knowledge and confidence – much like she does today with her clients.
Andrea doesn’t just navigate the legal process. She walks beside her clients with steadiness and care, helping them find both resolution and reassurance when they need it most.
