RALEIGH, N.C. (September 2, 2025) – Smith Debnam is pleased to announce that attorney David Belisle has joined the firm’s Creditors’ Rights practice group, enhancing its team of attorneys serving financial institutions across the Carolinas and Virginia.
Before becoming a lawyer, Belisle was a chemical analyst and product engineer, which shaped his strategic approach to legal problem-solving. He has appeared in 85 of North Carolina’s 100 counties and is known for his preparation and poise in court. At Smith Debnam, Belisle will represent banks, credit unions, and lenders in foreclosure, debt enforcement, and creditor litigation.
“David brings a rare combination of technical precision, courtroom presence, and commercial insight to his legal work,” said Jerry T. Myers, Smith Debnam Managing Partner. “His path from engineering to law gives him a sharp eye for detail and a deep understanding of processes and systems. These are skills that directly benefit our clients.”
Prior to joining Smith Debnam, Belisle was an associate at Nodell, Glass & Haskell, LLP in Raleigh.
“Smith Debnam is a firm that values excellence, collaboration, and clarity of purpose,” Belisle said. “I’m excited to join a team that shares my focus on strategy and practical outcomes.”
Belisle earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Elon University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nanoscience from Virginia Tech, with a minor in Science and Technology Law.
