RALEIGH, N.C. (August 20, 2026) – Smith Debnam attorney John W. Narron has been recognized in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Family Law, continuing one of the firm’s longest-running histories of recognition in the publication.
A Wake County native who has practiced law in North Carolina since 1977, Narron was among the first group of 31 lawyers recognized as Board Certified Family Law Specialists by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization in 1989. His practice has encompassed family law litigation, arbitration, mediation, business transactions, will caveats, employment disputes, and commercial matters.
Narron has also served as a mediator in more than 360 family law disputes and estate disputes throughout the Triangle and eastern North Carolina. That work reflects a longstanding view of family law and estate litigation as more than winning a contested proceeding: for clients facing one of life’s most stressful periods, the lawyer’s role includes helping them find a path toward recovery and resolution.

Narron earned his J.D. from the University of Mississippi and his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University. He has held leadership roles in the North Carolina Bar Association’s Family Law Section and has been recognized by Best Lawyers for nearly two decades.
