Smith Debnam partner recognized among 250 attorneys statewide for her work and leadership in consumer financial services
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 17, 2026) – Smith Debnam partner Caren D. Enloe has been named to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s 2026 North Carolina Legal 250 in the Consumer/Commercial Law category, recognizing her among 250 attorneys selected statewide for sustained professional achievement and influence.
Enloe is one of two Smith Debnam attorneys included in this year’s Legal 250, along with partner Byron L. Saintsing, who was recognized in Construction Law. Her selection reflects a career spent helping financial services businesses navigate an area of law continually reshaped by regulation, technology, and changing consumer expectations.
North Carolina Lawyers Weekly describes the Legal 250 as its premier recognition program. Its editorial team selects attorneys who have demonstrated sustained success and an ability to navigate evolving client needs, legal developments, technology, economic challenges, and strong community engagement.
Those demands have been constants throughout Enloe’s more than 30-year career. She represents consumer financial service providers, collection agencies, fintech companies, law firms, equipment finance companies, and other businesses in litigation, regulatory, and compliance matters. Her work includes defending clients in state and federal courts, evaluating financial products for regulatory compliance, developing compliance management systems, participating in federal rulemaking, and helping businesses assess risk under an increasingly complex network of consumer protection laws.
“Caren has never been content simply knowing what the law says today,” said Jerry T. Myers, managing partner of Smith Debnam. “She wants to know where the industry is going, what regulators are thinking, and what clients should be considering before the next issue reaches their doorstep. That combination of experience, curiosity, and foresight has made her an important voice in consumer financial services for decades.”
Enloe’s influence extends beyond her client work. She currently serves as Programs Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee and Vice President of Publications for the Conference on Consumer Finance Law. In 2026, she coordinated programming for the ABA Consumer Financial Services Spring Meeting and participated in industry programs addressing emerging litigation and compliance issues.
She has also held leadership roles with ACA International and the National Creditor Bar Association and has written extensively on consumer finance law. Enloe was named one of the “20 Most Powerful Women in Collections” by Collection Advisor and was recognized by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly as a Power Player in commercial and consumer litigation in 2024 and 2025.
Her selection to the North Carolina Legal 250 recognizes a career that has paired decades of perspective with a willingness to keep learning what comes next.
