RALEIGH, N.C. (March 10, 2026) – Smith Debnam is proud to announce that partner Rose H. Stout has been named a 2026 “Icon” honoree by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly as part of its annual Excellence in Law awards.
The Icon award recognizes senior members of the bar with more than 30 years of practice who serve as guiding lights within the legal community. Honorees are selected by a panel of editorial and leadership judges based on professional accomplishments, bar leadership, community service, pro bono work, and mentoring.
Stout has practiced law since 1985 and has been a board-certified family law specialist since 1991. Over nearly four decades, she has built a reputation as one of North Carolina’s most respected family law attorneys, handling complex and high-conflict matters involving divorce, custody, equitable distribution, and support.
In addition to her extensive trial experience, Stout has long championed mediation and thoughtful resolution, helping families navigate difficult transitions with clarity and dignity. She is widely recognized for her ethical leadership and her commitment to mentoring younger attorneys within the profession.

Davis Excellence Award from the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization and selection as Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” for Family Law in Raleigh. She has consistently been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and North Carolina Super Lawyers.
