Smith Debnam Adds Taylor Gibbs to Creditors’ Rights Practice

July 01, 2026

New associate will represent financial institutions and businesses in consumer debt collection matters.

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 1, 2026) – Smith Debnam is pleased to announce that Taylor Gibbs has joined the firm as an associate attorney in its Creditors’ Rights practice group. Based in the firm’s Charlotte office, Gibbs will focus her practice on consumer collections, representing financial institutions, lenders, and businesses seeking to recover outstanding consumer accounts while navigating the legal and regulatory requirements governing the collections process.

Gibbs brings experience representing lenders, creditors, financial institutions, landlords, and property management companies in a broad range of creditors’ rights matters. Prior to joining Smith Debnam, she handled commercial and consumer collection actions, foreclosure proceedings, post-judgment enforcement matters, residential eviction proceedings, and real property litigation. Despite beginning her legal career in 2024, she has already represented clients in more than 40 counties across North Carolina, appearing before magistrates, district and superior courts, and Clerks of Superior Court.

“Taylor brings a level of maturity, preparation, and professionalism that is remarkable for a young attorney,” said Jerry T. Myers, Smith Debnam Managing Partner. “She approaches every matter with curiosity, diligence, and a genuine commitment to helping clients achieve the best possible outcome. Those qualities make her an excellent addition to our Consumer Collections team.”

Gibbs said she is excited to continue building her career at Smith Debnam.

“I’ve always believed the best lawyers never stop learning,” Gibbs said. “Every client, every courtroom, and every case presents an opportunity to become a better advocate. I’m excited to join Smith Debnam’s Consumer Collections team and help financial institutions and businesses resolve collection matters with thoughtful guidance and practical solutions.”

Gibbs earned her Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2024 and received her Bachelor of Arts in political science, magna cum laude, from Appalachian State University in 2020.

She is admitted to practice in North Carolina and South Carolina and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina.
