Smith Debnam Welcomes Former In-House Litigation Executive Cynthia Dixon

July 01, 2026

Experienced in-house counsel joins firm’s Foreclosure team serving mortgage lenders and financial institutions.

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 1, 2026) – Smith Debnam is pleased to announce that former in-house litigation executive Cynthia Dixon has joined the firm as an associate attorney in its Creditors’ Rights practice group. Dixon focuses her practice on foreclosure matters, representing mortgage lenders, loan servicers, and financial institutions throughout the foreclosure process.

Dixon brings nearly a decade of in-house legal and leadership experience with one of North Carolina’s largest credit unions, where she advanced from Financial Services Representative to Vice President of Litigation. During her tenure, she helped establish the organization’s first in-house litigation department, managed hundreds of litigation matters, and worked closely with outside counsel on foreclosure, creditors’ rights, and related litigation across North Carolina. That experience gives her a perspective few foreclosure attorneys possess. She understands the expectations, priorities, and business realities of institutional clients because she once sat in their chair.

“We’re excited to welcome Cynthia to Smith Debnam,” said Jerry T. Myers, Smith Debnam Managing Partner. “Cynthia brings a perspective that few attorneys can offer. Having spent years leading litigation from inside one of North Carolina’s largest financial institutions, she understands exactly what clients expect from outside counsel. That experience will be an incredible asset to our foreclosure clients.”

Dixon said joining Smith Debnam allows her to continue serving the financial institutions she has worked alongside throughout her career.

“I’ve spent much of my career helping financial institutions navigate complex legal challenges from the inside,” Dixon said. “That experience taught me that every legal matter is also a business decision. I’m excited to join Smith Debnam’s Foreclosure team and help lenders move through the legal process with practical guidance, responsive communication, and an appreciation for the challenges they face every day.”

Dixon earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2016, after earning her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Mount Olive College in 2013.

She is admitted to practice law in North Carolina.
