RALEIGH, N.C. (August 20, 2026) – Smith Debnam associate Lucas S. Fautua has been recognized in three areas in the 2027 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America: Commercial Litigation, Litigation – Bankruptcy, and Litigation – Real Estate.
The three categories reflect the interconnected nature of Fautua’s Charleston practice. Real estate, bankruptcy, and commercial disputes frequently overlap in that work.
Fautua’s approach is grounded in setting realistic expectations and giving clients enough information to make informed decisions. His interest in counseling is also personal: his Samoan surname, Fautua, translates to “advisor” or “counselor,” a meaning his parents highlighted when encouraging him toward the law.

Fautua earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. He is licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina and serves on the board of the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association.
